Akalis to gherao assem­bly on Day 1 of bud­get ses­sion

CHANDI­GARH: The Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (SAD) in its core com­mit­tee meet­ing on Wed­nes­day de­cided to gherao the Vid­han Sabha on the open­ing day of the bud­get ses­sion in March, to protest against the gov­ern­ment’s fail­ure to give farm debt waiver as promised.

It was also de­cided that the party will ac­cord a sep­a­rate wel­come to Cana­dian Prime Min­is­ter Justin Trudeau who is ex­pected to visit the Golden Tem­ple later this month. The state gov­ern­ment and the Shi­ro­mani Gur­d­wara Par­band­hak Com­mit­tee (SGPC) have also de­cided to wel­come Trudeau.

In the meet­ing, chaired by SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, it was also de­cided to cel­e­brate the 550th birth an­niver­sary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019. The SGPC will give all sup­port to the state gov­ern­ment in or­gan­is­ing a mega event, said SAD spokesman Daljit Cheema. HTC
