Farmers threaten to gherao Delhi on February 23
CHANDIGARH:Farmers associated with 62 unions from across the country, under the aegis of Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh, have threatened to gherao Delhi on February 23, 2018, to press for the implementation of the recommendations of the Swaminathan commission and farm-loan waiver. Briefing newspersons, members of core committee of the Mahasangh, Gurnam Singh Charuni, Jagjit Singh Dalewal and Veerpal Kadian said while farmers were either committing suicide or quitting farming, governments appeared to be fooling farmers.
Charuni is the president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Haryana; Dalewal and Kadian are from Punjab.
“Farmers would enter Delhi from four sides – Agra expressway at Palwal, national highway number 1 at Kundli, Hisar-Delhi road at Bahadurgarh and from the Ghaziabad-Delhi road. We would stage a sit-in (dharna) on the road itself, if prevented from marching,” Charuni said. HTC
