QUOTA NO CURE FOR THE DISADVANTAGED

Hindustan Times (Jalandhar) - - REGION -

Apropos the interview (February 13) of All India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) president Yashpal Malik in connection with reservation for Jats, the moot question that remains is that who will benefit from this sleight-of-the-hand policy. Quotas are meant to bridge the gulf between the privileged and underprivileged. In reality, that gulf in widening. It is akin to giving sedatives to a patient to improve their condition, but it can never be a cure. The cure lies in giving weaker sections better opportunities, making them able to compete with others. Akram Shahab, Chandigarh
