‘MADEININDIA’ FOREIGN ARMS

Hindustan Times (Jalandhar) - - REGION -

The defence ministry’s decision to fast-track the purchase of weapons ₹Rs 16,000 crore is an admission that our own arms, manufactured by the Defence Research and Devlopment Organisation (DRDO) and Ordnance Factory Board (IOF) among other agencies have utterly failed. It is also a waste of taxpayers’ money. Our forces are forced to make do with substandard arms and are expected to deliver with them. What worries me is the manufacturing of foreign arms in India by the private sector. Who will oversee the quality of these ‘made-in-India’ foreign arms? Tejit Singh, Chandigarh
