DEVELOP CHANDIGARH ON LINES OF NCR

-

Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s rejection of the proposal of setting up a Tricity Planning Board lacks farsightedness. Setting up a new capital for Haryana will doom the economy of the region beyond redemption. Can Punjab afford to maintain Chandigarh alone? It will be a wise decision to expand the Union Territory (UT) as Chandigarh Capital Region (CCR) and develop it on the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR). New areas can be uniformly planned and developed after ridding the area of jurisdiction of shortsighted local authorities. Metro rail in the CCR can provide efficient and peoplefriendly transport system on a sustainable basis. Lalit Bharadwaj, Panchkula
