Farmers of eight villages in the district on Saturday threatened to boycott the upcoming 2019 general elections unless the state government decides to build a check dam on the Najafgarh drain to retrieve 5,500 acres of submerged farmland before the Election Commission’s model code of conduct is enforced.

On Saturday, farmers hailing from Kherki Majra, Dhankot, Chandu Budhera, Dharampur, Momdheri, Daultabad and Makrola villages held a conference on the issue in a private hotel in Gurugram’s Sector 15.

Rakesh Daultabad, the president of the farmers’ development association, said the model code of conduct is likely to be enforced on February 27, following which the process of land acquisition to build the dam may, once again, get delayed indefinitely.
