MAN DIES OF DRUG OVERDOSE, 2 ARRESTED

AMRITSAR :City police on Sunday arrested two persons on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with a drug overdose case, in which, one person had died at Majitha Road, here on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Malkit Singh and Dinesh, residents of quarter 91 and quarter 50 respective­ly, near mental hospital. However, the third accused Kapil, a resident of Karampura area was still absconding.

A complaint has been lodged against the three accused at Majitha road police station.

The complainan­t, Anju, said in her complaint, “My son, Rahul Bhilla was a drug addict. At around 7 pm on Saturday, he took some money from me to buy clothes and left the house. He was with three accused.”

“As he did not come back home till late night on Saturday, I went out to search for him. As I reached near mental hospital canteen, I found the dead body of my son lying on road. It appears, when my son’s condition got serious due to drug overdose, the accused fled away leaving him behind to die.”

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar said, “A case has been registered against the three accused under Sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal code (IPC) and 32 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The two accused are in police custody and efforts are being made to nab the absconding one for further investigat­ion.”
