Dr Shashi Rai has been associated with Richmond Fellowship Society India (Lucknow branch) since 2005. It is a non-profit organisation devoted for the cause of rehabilitation of patients of chronic mental illness. Shashi has been serving as the secretary of the organisation since 2009 and has been working for the uplift of patients of chronic mental illness who are neglected by the society, family and friends. The society is working from Nav Uday Mansik Swasthya Sansthan, Viraj Khand, Gomti Nagar. Shashi Rai is also the director of Sambal Drug De-Addiction and Psychiatric Centre, Lucknow, a centre providing acute care to patients of drug dependence and psychiatric illness. Shashi has been associated with child guidance clinic of the National Institute of Public Health and Child Development since its inception in 2003 and has been instrumental in raising awareness regarding child mental health issues in schools. She has been giving talks to school teachers under the banner of CGC.
She took psychiatry to the grass roots by starting satellite clinics in Hardoi and Khairabad (Sitapur) in 1995. She is serving the people of this area with her fortnightly visits.
She has been giving talks on Doordarshan and All-India Radio to raise awareness about mental health and reduction of stigma.
