Dr Shashi Rai has been as­so­ci­ated with Rich­mond Fel­low­ship So­ci­ety In­dia (Luc­know branch) since 2005. It is a non-profit or­gan­i­sa­tion de­voted for the cause of re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of pa­tients of chronic men­tal ill­ness. Shashi has been serv­ing as the sec­re­tary of the or­gan­i­sa­tion since 2009 and has been work­ing for the up­lift of pa­tients of chronic men­tal ill­ness who are ne­glected by the so­ci­ety, fam­ily and friends. The so­ci­ety is work­ing from Nav Uday Man­sik Swasthya Sansthan, Vi­raj Khand, Gomti Na­gar. Shashi Rai is also the di­rec­tor of Sam­bal Drug De-Ad­dic­tion and Psy­chi­atric Cen­tre, Luc­know, a cen­tre pro­vid­ing acute care to pa­tients of drug de­pen­dence and psy­chi­atric ill­ness. Shashi has been as­so­ci­ated with child guid­ance clinic of the Na­tional In­sti­tute of Pub­lic Health and Child De­vel­op­ment since its in­cep­tion in 2003 and has been in­stru­men­tal in rais­ing aware­ness re­gard­ing child men­tal health is­sues in schools. She has been giv­ing talks to school teach­ers un­der the ban­ner of CGC.

She took psy­chi­a­try to the grass roots by start­ing satel­lite clin­ics in Har­doi and Khairabad (Si­ta­pur) in 1995. She is serv­ing the peo­ple of this area with her fort­nightly vis­its.

She has been giv­ing talks on Do­or­dar­shan and All-In­dia Ra­dio to raise aware­ness about men­tal health and re­duc­tion of stigma.
