The sprawl­ing cam­pus of more than cen­tury old Ben­gali Club re­ver­ber­ated with Bangla folk songs on Poila Baisakh, the New Year day of Ben­gali cal­en­dar.

The 1,425th Ben­gali New Year be­gan on a mu­si­cal note, with renowned folk singer from Kolkata, Partho Bhowmick and his much pop­u­lar Bangla band, ‘Mahul’. Or­gan­ised by Ben­gali Club and Young­men’s As­so­ci­a­tion, the Mahul’ band pre­sented some mu­si­cal melodies like Bangla folk, mod­ern and Bangla Pally Geeti. Partha Bhowmick, the lead singer was sup­ported by Sonai Sen, a fe­male lead singer who ex­per­tises in folk singing. Mas­ter So­ham played flute, do­da­tra and banjo, Kan­chan Parui was on dhol and tabla, Su­man Das was on key­board, Sub­ho­jit Das on dhol/ka­han while Ra­jarshi Pal was on per­cus­sion.

The per­for­mance of the band brought crowd on the feet who also danced with them all through­out the per­for­mance. Arun Ku­mar Ban­er­jee, pres­i­dent of the club wished Subho Navo Varsho (Happy New Year) to every­one present on the oc­ca­sion.
