Britannia to invest R 200 cr for expansion, innovation

MUMBAI: The overall fast-moving consumer goods market may be seeing sluggish demand right now, but biscuits major Britannia Industries is looking to scale up its capacity and launch innovative products.

The company will invest more than ` 200 crore over the next few years for capital expenditur­e and innovation­s, managing director, Varun Berry told HT.

At present, 46% of its production is in-house. Britannia has 11 production plants with the 12th coming up in Tamil Nadu and two more in the pipeline.

“We have a clear fix on where we are going. In the next two years, there might be at least two new plants. Also we want to ensure that we have scale in our existing plants so we will add more lines there,” Berry said. “Our capacity of 65,000 tonnes per year will rise by 12,000 tonnes per year after the capacity addition.”
