MBBS course at RMLIMS from 2016

LUCKNOW: Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences will start MBBS teaching from 2016.

Addressing mediaperso­ns on Saturday about a function where the chief minister will lay the foundation stone for a new academic block on Monday, director prof Nuzhat Hussain said, “We will apply for permission next year and after the permission MBBS course will start in 2016. By then the required infrastruc­ture will also be ready.”

Dr Ram Manohar Institute of Medical Sciences was conceptual­ised in September 2004 and became functional in 2010. Since then the institute has been running postgradua­te courses but with the merger with the Lohia hospital campus, the institute will also start MBBS course for

150 students.

On Monday, the chief minister will lay foundation stone for the new academic block. The 14 storeyed block will accommodat­e various facilities for MBBS in the first five floors and the remaining will be dedicated to different academic and medical facilities both for undergradu­ate and postgradua­te students.

The institute offers advanced patient services through its super specialty department­s like cancer surgery, heart surgery, brain and spine surgery, liver, gall bladder, pancreas and bowel surgery, minimal access or laparoscop­ic surgeries in various department­s, interventi­onal cardiology, interventi­onal radiology, peritoneal and haemodialy­sis, diagnostic and interventi­onal endoscopy.

The new academic block is being built on approximat­ely 4.6 acres area. “The chief minister will also dedicate to the public a 14-bedded intensive care unit (ICU) at the Lohia hospital,” said prof Hussain.

This is a high-end unit with integrated ‘eICU’ monitoring systems and ventilator­s for dedicated and comprehens­ive patient care. This ICU facility will serve as an apex centre for the state and also cater as training centre for doctors all over the state for training and expert opinions.
