A 55-year-old man was strangled to death inside his house located in a crowded locality of Old city. His naked body with his hands tied with a cloth was found lying in his room here on Wednesday morning. Police said liquor bottles apart from eatable items were also found in the room.

The deceased identified as Badri Vishal Sahu was unmarried and stayed alone at his Hasanganj Baoli locality in Saadatganj. He used to run a small grocery shop in the front portion of his house. Locals spotted his body when they tried to reach out to him to ensure his wellbeing after spotting the main door of his house wide open. They found his naked body lying on the floor while his clothes were kept aside.

District police spokesman Alok Pathak said the tenant staying in one portion of the deceased’s house informed the police about the incident. He said the spot examination suggested that the assailant was familiar with the victim as there is no forced entry in the house. He said the police have also found a packet of eatables which had been consumed on a table and some empty liquor bottles lying on the floor.

Pathak said the investigators believe that the victim was strangulated to death. However, the body has been sent for postmortem. The victim had two sisters who were married and they were informed about his death.
