LAWYER TO PLEAD FOR CBI PROBE INTO SACHAN’S DISAPPEARANCE
LUCKNOW: Bennet Castelino, an advocate and petitioner-inperson, will seek a CBI probe into the mysterious disappearance of Rahul Sachan, prime witness in the Asaram Bapu case, on Tuesday when the case comes up for hearing before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court.
Castelino reached Lucknow on Monday evening. He is an overseas Indian citizen practicing law in New Zealand and India.
Asaram, a spiritual leader, is currently in Jodhpur jail on charges of raping a minor. The Prevention of Child Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) was invoked against Asaram.
The case would come up for hearing before the court of double judge bench of Justice AP Shahi and another judge at court number one.
Sachan, who was personal assistant of Asaram Bapu, went missing in November 2015 under mysterious circumstances.
In March this year, Castelino moved the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe into the mysterious disappearance of Sachan.
The apex court, however, directed, Castelino to move Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court to seek CBI probe in the mysterious disappearance of Sachan.
Following Supreme Court’s directive, Castelino filed a writ before Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court seeking CBI probe.
When the case came up for hearing on May 6 this year, the court directed the UP police to file a status report on the disappearance of Rahul Sachan by August 1.However, the UP Police failed to file the status report on the said date and fixed August 9 as the next date of hearing.
Castelino would plead for the CBI probe into the disappearance of Rahul Sachan on Tuesday.
