- HT Correspondent

After a gap of four years, Lucknow University is all set to reintroduce a course in Russian language. It will be a one-year proficiency course. Undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers at LU and degree colleges are eligible to apply for the course.

LU vice chancellor SB Nimse told HT, “There was a demand from the students of the university and degree colleges to restart the proficiency course in Russian language. These days, there is a demand for courses that teach foreign languages.”

The course will be run in the department of English and modern European languages, along with German and French. Sabra Habib, emeritus professor of Russian, LU (Pushkin Awardee), will teach the course that was discontinued soon after her retirement.

“I’m extremely happy that the university decided to reintroduce the course. The students will surely benefit from it. Students from LU and degree colleges may apply for the course. We are looking forward to a great turn out of interested students,” said Sabra Habib.

The department of English and modern European languages at LU has a rich tradition of high quality teaching and research. The undergraduate and postgraduate courses taught there are revised and updated every three years. Over 200 research scholars have received their doctorates from the department.
