According to locals, the park at Thakur Wali Gali - also hosts ‘Holika burning’ every year.
As soon as the news of the two communities’ face off spread, activists from Bharatiya Janata Party, led by BJP Yuva Morcha president Manoj Sharma and Vinay Varshney, reached the spot.
They raised strong objections to the construction of the wall, which escalated communal tension.
City magistrate, Pankaj Verma, circle officer (I) Raj Kumar, inspector Suryakant Dwivedi arrived at the park, accompanied by heavy police force.
Reportedly, members of Muslim community told officials that they did not want any confrontation and were ready to demolish the wall if the “other group” had a problem.
