WHAT IS NHRM SCAM

The central government had released Rs 10,000 crore under the NRHM in the period 2005-11. The CAG conducted performance audit of NRHM and detected that Rs 4,900 crore was misappropriated. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court ordered a CBI probe into the scam in November 2011 following the murder of two chief medical officers (CMOs) in Lucknow in broad daylight. Then family welfare minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, a close aide of BSP chief Mayawati, and health minister Anant Kumar Mishra were forced to resign. Later CBI arrested Kushwaha and principal secretary, Health, Pradeep Shukla. The CBI has also arrested large number of CMOs, doctors and medicine suppliers. Now Anant Kumar Mishra is in CBI net. In its charge sheet filed in the court, the CBI said Mishra had invested ill-gotten money in properties in various cities and floated two companies as well. Opposition is likely to raise the issue to nail Mayawati before the assembly elections.
