LUCKNOW: Nearly eight months after marriage, a man strangulated his 25-year-old wife to death during their visit to a relative’s house in Alambagh on Wednesday.

Police said the initial probe suggested that the man murdered his wife over the suspicion that she had an extra-marital affair.

Kavita, along with her husband Kanhaiyalal, had gone to meet her elder sister’s husband Pankaj who is a helper in railways four days ago.

The woman’s elder sister had gone to attend a religious gathering at her village while Pankaj was staying at his house in railway’s Loco colony in Alambagh.

Pankaj told the police that he left for his job on Wednesday morning as per his daily routine and returned at around 2.30 pm only to find his house locked from outside.

He said Kahaiyalal told him that he and Kavita were in the market and would return in half an hour.

Pankaj said he again called Kanhaiyalal when they did not return but this time the mobile was out of reach.

Pankaj made multiple calls and waited till 4 pm before breaking the lock of the door.

As he entered the room, he found Kavita lying dead on the floor.

Inspector at Alambagh police station Ashutosh Mishra said initial probe suggested that Kavita was strangulated to death by her husband. He said police teams were carrying out raids to nab Kanhaiyalal.
