98-yr-old instructors lead celebration in B’luru
BENGALURU: International Yoga Day celebrations in Bengaluru saw a shift from the focus on youth. Two women, said to be the oldest instructors of Yoga, led the event here.
At the Kanteerava Stadium here while there were about 500 Yoga enthusiasts who turned up, all eyes were glued on to the stage, where Tao PorchonLynch, 98, who has a Guinness World record for being the oldest instructor in the world, and Amma Nanammal, who turned 98 recently and is said to be the oldest instructor in India, performed asanas.
Porchon-Lynch, of IndianFrench descent, said she had participated in the Indian freedom struggle. Nanammal hails from Coimbatore in India.
Speaking on the occassion, Union minister for chemicals and fertilizers Ananth Kumar said it was to the credit of PM Narendra Modi that Yoga had assumed such significance.
“All the diseases that ail our society are born out of our lifestyle. We need to change this and revert to a lifestyle where we wake up early in the morning and perform Yoga ,” he said.
