Gang rape sur­vivor tries self im­mo­la­tion near Vid­han Bhawan

LUC­KNOW:A 24-year-old rape sur­vivor from Mau district along with her brother tried to im­mo­late self in front of gate num­ber 3 of Vid­han Bhawan here on Satur­day morn­ing. The girl ac­cused po­lice of in­ac­tion and also al­leged non-reg­is­tra­tion of FIR de­spite re­peated at­tempts.

The girl and her brother were res­cued on time be­fore they could light the match stick af­ter pour­ing kerosene on their bod­ies.

They were later taken to Hazrat­ganj po­lice sta­tion and Mau po­lice au­thor­i­ties were in­formed about the in­ci­dent. The au­thor­i­ties have been asked to take proper ac­tion in the girl’s al­le­ga­tions of kid­nap­ping and gang rape.

The girl al­leged that a lo­cal mus­cle­man and his goons kid­napped her when she had gone to mar­ket for some work on Septem­ber 4.

She said she was gang raped by the mus­cle­man and his goons af­ter be­ing held hostage for around three days. She said the ac­cused re­leased her and threat­ened her with dire con­se­quences.

She said she had ap­proached the po­lice per­son­nel at Dohrighat po­lice sta­tion in Mau mul­ti­ple times but they were not reg­is­ter­ing her FIR. She said the lo­cal po­lice in fact were mount­ing pres­sure on her to keep her mouth shut and even threat­ened with dire con­se­quences. She pre­sented a me­moran­dum to the Luc­know po­lice au­thor­i­ties af­ter be­ing res­cued and de­manded stern ac­tion against the cul­prits and lo­cal cops for in­ac­tion.

Sub-in­spec­tor San­jay Ku­mar Gupta of Hazrat­ganj po­lice sta­tion said the girl’s ap­pli­ca­tion has been for­warded to the au­thor­i­ties con­cerned and the girl has been handed over to the Mau po­lice with in­struc­tion to drop her home and look into the girl’s al­le­ga­tions.
