BJP leader’s house attacked in Moradabad

BAREILLY: The house of of BJP leader Rajpal Singh was attacked late on Friday night. The attackers allegedly tried to enter the house and opened fire after failing in their attempt, police said.

Reportedly Singh, his family members and other party leader were sleeping in the house when four people scaled the boundary wall and tried to barge inside.

“The trespasser­s later opened fire but nobody was injured,” said superinten­dent of police, Moradabad Ashish Srivastav. “A case has been registered at Baijnath police station and a police team is investigat­ing the matter.”

Based on the complaint filed by the BJP leader, police have registered an FIR against four people and charged them with house trespass, attempt to murder and use of force along with relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.

“Our teams are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused for their arrest,” said the SP. “A police picket has been deployed outside the house of the victim ,” he added

A former government employee, Rajpal is known as a BJP strong man in Moradabad. He contested on the Thakurdwar seat in the recent UP elections but lost to a Samajwadi Party candidate with a narrow margin.

“The attack was perpetrate­d by those who don’t want me to fight for the poor and destitute of the area. I was attacked only for fighting for the poor,” Rajpal told Hindustan Times. Senior party leaders of the area visited his residence on Saturday from where a group went to meet the SP.

“We have demanded swift investigat­ion and arrest of the those behind the attack and assured the police of our total support,” Rajpal said.
