BJP leader’s house at­tacked in Mo­rad­abad

BAREILLY: The house of of BJP leader Ra­j­pal Singh was at­tacked late on Fri­day night. The at­tack­ers al­legedly tried to en­ter the house and opened fire af­ter fail­ing in their at­tempt, po­lice said.

Re­port­edly Singh, his fam­ily mem­bers and other party leader were sleep­ing in the house when four peo­ple scaled the bound­ary wall and tried to barge in­side.

“The tres­passers later opened fire but no­body was in­jured,” said su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice, Mo­rad­abad Ashish Sri­vas­tav. “A case has been reg­is­tered at Bai­j­nath po­lice sta­tion and a po­lice team is in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mat­ter.”

Based on the com­plaint filed by the BJP leader, po­lice have reg­is­tered an FIR against four peo­ple and charged them with house tres­pass, at­tempt to mur­der and use of force along with rel­e­vant sec­tions of In­dian Pe­nal Code.

“Our teams are raid­ing the pos­si­ble hide­outs of the ac­cused for their ar­rest,” said the SP. “A po­lice picket has been de­ployed out­side the house of the victim ,” he added

A for­mer gov­ern­ment em­ployee, Ra­j­pal is known as a BJP strong man in Mo­rad­abad. He con­tested on the Thakur­d­war seat in the re­cent UP elec­tions but lost to a Sa­ma­jwadi Party can­di­date with a nar­row mar­gin.

“The at­tack was per­pe­trated by those who don’t want me to fight for the poor and des­ti­tute of the area. I was at­tacked only for fight­ing for the poor,” Ra­j­pal told Hin­dus­tan Times. Se­nior party lead­ers of the area vis­ited his res­i­dence on Satur­day from where a group went to meet the SP.

“We have de­manded swift in­ves­ti­ga­tion and ar­rest of the those be­hind the at­tack and as­sured the po­lice of our to­tal sup­port,” Ra­j­pal said.
