Ex­min­is­ter’s niece ac­cuses hus­band of try­ing to set her afire

AL­LA­HABAD:The niece of a for­mer state min­is­ter ac­cused her hus­band and in-laws of try­ing to set her afire, po­lice said. She had been liv­ing sep­a­rately from her hus­band for more than two years.

Fauzia Ja­mal, niece of BSP leader Javed Iqbal, was mar­ried to busi­ness­man Akeel Ahmed of Kareli in 2009. The cou­ple had two chil­dren be­fore they de­vel­oped dif­fer­ences and started liv­ing sep­a­rately.

In-charge of women’s po­lice sta­tion Kal­pana Gau­tam said Fauzia claimed that her hus­band called her to his home for a com­pro­mised on Septem­ber 13 but when she reached there, her in-laws at­tacked her and tried to set her on fire. “Fauzia said she man­aged to es­cape from her in-laws’ house. In­ves­ti­ga­tion is on and ac­tion will be taken against the ac­cused,” Gau­tam said.


A farmer Ram­du­lar Pasi, 55, body was found in a canal in Mauaima area of trans-Ganga on Satur­day morn­ing, po­lice said.
