H1N1 cases in India crossed

31,000 by September 10, up from 1,786 by the end of 2016.

India witnessed

its worst swine flu outbreak in 2009-10, when the disease affected close to 50,000 people and killed more than 2,700.

Swine flu causes

symptoms of fever, cough, breathless­ness, lethargy, headache and nausea.

People are infectious

from the day before they develop symptoms until up to a week after.

People at risk include

children under 5, adults over 65, pregnant women, people with asthma, neurologic­al conditions, lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, kidney or liver disorders and weakened immunity.
