SHIMLA: Unhappy with the slow pace of probe and hazy status reports in the Kotkhai rape and murder case, Himachal Pradesh high court on Wednesday pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and gave it two weeks to file the detailed status report.

The court said CBI should tell whether it would be able to crack this case or not.

Earlier, the CBI submitted a status report in a sealed cover with some new facts in the case. The court said CBI is not revealing the breakthroughs, if any, it has made in the case. The CBI counsel, Anshul Bansal, however, said the agency has made progress in the case and everything is in a case diary.

The Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Sandeep Sharma observed that the CBI should tell the court about its actual progress.

The bench gave the CBI two weeks to file the detailed status report. The CBI also informed the court that narco test reports of the accused are supposed to come on October 16.

The CBI counsel, Anshul Bansal, had told mediapersons that the CBI was moving in the right direction. He said a supplementary status report will be filed before the court by the next date.

The CBI is awaiting sanction from the prosecution to file a chargesheet against IG Zahur Zaidi and seven other members of SIT for the custodial death of Suraj Kumar, an accused in the Gudia rape and murder case.
