UP Congress passes resolution on Rahul Gandhi’s elevation
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Thursday unanimously demanded the elevation of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi as the party chief.
A resolution to this effect was moved by the party’s state unit chief Raj Babbar and endorsed almost immediately by delegates, district and city unit office-bearers at UPCC headquarters here. The partymen raised slogans in favour of Rahul and hoped that he would soon step into the shoes of his mother Sonia Gandhi.
“Rahul has been speaking about upholding democratic values. We all have requested him to assume the role of Congress president. We are hoping that he will do so as early as possible,” said Babbar. “UPCC headquarters witnessed a great frenzy as the resolution was moved,” said Babbar. Senior party leader Ram Krishna Dwivedi moved another resolution authorising AICC president to appoint UPCC president and nominate new AICC members from Uttar Pradesh.
A Congress leader said party MP Sanjay Singh, MLA Aradhna Mishra and MLC Deepak Singh seconded both the resolutions that were passed in presence of returning officer Kishor Upadhyay and other senior leaders.
