Indira Gandhi did a lot for coun­try: Azad

RAE BARELI: An event mark­ing the birth cen­te­nary cel­e­bra­tions of the late PM Indira Gandhi was held here on Tues­day. Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Congress na­tional gen­eral sec­re­tary Ghu­lam Nabi Azad said the for­mer PM did a lot of the progress of the coun­try. Enu­mer­at­ing some of her works, he said she was in­stru­men­tal in na­tion­al­is­ing banks and mak­ing Sikkim a state. She also played a piv­otal role in the cre­ation of Bangladesh, he added. Party work­ers and lead­ers from Rae Bareli, Ame­thi, Sultanpur and Fateh­pur took part in the pro­gramme. State Congress pres­i­dent Raj Bab­bar be­sides se­nior party lead­ers Pramod Ti­wari and Dr San­jay Singh were also present on the oc­ca­sion.
