Youth claims to find banned notes on Ganga bank

-

VARANASI: A youth, who went to take a bath in Ganga, claimed to have found banned currency notes of ₹500 and ₹1000 on the river bank on Wednesday noon.

Anurag Singh, who found the notes, told mediapersons that he along with his younger brother had gone across the river. They were walking on the sandy bank when they spotted a currency note of ₹1,000 lying in the sand.

They also found several notes of ₹1000 and ₹500 lying in the area. Singh said some people who were present in the area collected some of the notes and went away.

The area where notes were found comes under jurisdiction of Bhiti police outpost under Ram Nagar Police station.

Outpost In-charge Anil Singh said that he visited the area and spoke to the locals of Domari village in the vicinity. But no one confirmed that banned currency notes were found. Police, meanwhile, said they would question the youths.
