MP poll panel steps up vigil as election draws near
BHOPAL : The state election commission is on an overdrive to ensure free and fair polls in Madhya Pradesh. Its officers have seized some 600 school bags depicting a minister’s name and photo and meant to be distributed among voters in Damoh district of Bundelkhand region. In Jabalpur, a case has been registered against a BJP legislator and former minister for distributing wrist watches among voters almost two months before the polling. The commission has also directed the district administration to tar and wipe out plaques, boards and hoardings displaying various claims and benefits provided by elected representatives to voters. An EC officials said even the tiles displaying photographs of PM Modi and CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the houses constructed under a central scheme for poor sections will be painted. Since announcement of polls on October 6, the commission has been receiving a large number of complaints of model code violations.
