Newborn tests positive

-

LUCKNOW: A newborn tested positive for coronavirus at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) late on Sunday night.

A 23-year-old woman from Dumariaganj had given birth to this child in this hospital on Saturday. After she tested positive, samples of her child and two other close relatives were sent to the lab. All three tested positive.

“The mother had breast-fed the baby, which could be one possible reason. At present, all of them are under treatment as per protocol. One portion of the labour room has been closed for sanitisation,” said Dr Srikesh

Singh, spokesperson of the institute.

BABY DIES, MOTHER TESTS POSITIVE

The newborn child of a woman from Indira Nagar died at the RMLIMS soon after birth. Doctors sent the infant’s sample for Covid test. The woman was brought to the institute on Sunday for emergency delivery.

She tested positive for coronavirus soon after the delivery and was shifted to the isolation ward. But the child died soon after birth. “The child’s body has been handed over to the family following protocol,” said Singh.
