JALANDHAR: Goods worth crores of rupees were reduced to ashes when a battery manufacturing factory at Focal Point was gutted in a fire on Saturday morning.

As per information, the incident came to light when security guard Kanwaljit Singh noticed a massive fire in the unit.

A short- circuit in an electric wire was said to be behind the blaze.

After getting information about the blaze in the manufacturing unit, fire tenders from a nearby unit of Sheetal Fibers reached the spot. Seven more fire tenders were also pressed into service taking around three hours to douse the flames.

Kewal Chaudhary, owner of the Action Battery Private Limited, said the fire tenders sent by Shital Fiber helped in control the flames and his office situated in the factory did not catch fire.

Because of the presence of highly inflammable acid in the batteries the fire lasted for more than three hours.

“We will not be able to work for around two months but I am hopeful that everything will be back on track soon,” said Chaudhary.

Since the fire tenders from the fire station reached the spot after an hour, industrialists from Focal Point have sought a fire station in the locality.
