THERE HAS BEEN AN OWNERSHIP DISPUTE BETWEEN THE SGPC AND DHAN DHAN BABA BHAI ROOP CHANDJI LANGAR SEWA SOCIETY OF BHAI ROOPA VILLAGE OVER 161 ACRES

BATHINDA: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Friday said it won’t allow anyone to take possession of land belonging to gurdwaras and being managed by the committee.

There has been an ownership dispute between the SGPC and Dhan Dhan Baba Bhai Roop Chandji Langar Sewa Society of Bhai Roopa village over 161 acres. And at Maur Kalan, there is a dispute between SGPC and a village residents’ committee over ownership of 130 acres.

“SGPC will act anyone who attempts to encroach upon this land,” said SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar in a meeting of its Malwa zone members in Talwandi Sabo on Friday. The members also passed a resolution in this regard. He alleged that attempts are being made to grab the SGPC land in past few days at the behest of Congress leaders but the government remains silent on the issue. Meanwhile, residents of Bhai Rupa village, led by Dhan Dhan Baba Bhai Roop Chandji Langar Sewa Society president Rajwinder Singh on Friday said they will not let the SGPC capture society’s land.

SGPC has said the land belongs to it as court ruled in its favour and possession was taken in 2013, but the langar committee claims that the SGPC had wrongly captured the land during the former government.

The residents of Maur Kalan also staged a protest against reported Badungar statement that villager’s committee had captured the land. Maur Kalan residents’ committee president Bhupinder Singh said, “SGPC teams had come here with a motive to capture the land recently but villagers continue to protect it.”
