Punjab inks MoU with UK govt to promote skill development
: The Punjab and United Kingdom governments signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday to promote skill development among the youths of the state.
Andrew Ayre, British deputy high commissioner, Chandigarh, and G Vajralingam, additional chief secretary, technical education and industrial training, signed the MoU in the presence oftechnical education minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Skill Development Mission adviser Dr Sandeep Singh Kaura.
Channi said that the state government is setting up international skill training centres in Punjab for providing quality skill training to Punjabi youth for overseas employment.
The UK deputy high commissioner has assured a facilitative role in building linkages between government departments, Punjab Skill Development Mission and UK skill providers, he said.
He said the government has been working on a plan to set up Technical Education and Skill Development College in the UK where Punjabi students will would be educated and trained by UK trainers. Ayre said this is the first-of-its kind MoU signed with Punjab government.
