CHANDIGARH: With the Haryana Congress on Wednesday passing a resolution requesting All-India Congress Committee (AICC) chairperson Sonia Gandhi to pick the state unit president, a fresh round of lobbying for the post has begun.

The resolution was passed at a meeting convened by former Union minister Pradeep Kumar Jain Aditya, who was appointed returning officer (RO) by the AICC for the state organisational election. The meeting was attended by 178 newly elected and 22 nominated state executive members. The members also passed another resolution urging the AICC chairperson to make Rahul Gandhi the party chief.

The resolution were moved by former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and seconded by state unit president Ashok Tanwar. It was also supported by Rajya Sabha member Kumari Selja and Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Kiran Chaudhry. Senior leader and Haryana affairs in-charge Kamal Nath thanked the PCC members.

However, bad blood in Haryana Congress could still be seen even as it has asked the high command to name its president. The infighting between Hooda and Tanwar has been repeatedly witnessed during the state organisational election meetings. There were charges levelled by Hooda supporters during the election meetings in the past that there were bogus party membership, while Tanwar’s supporters rejected their claim. On June 22, the rift between Hooda and Tanwar had hit a new low as their supporters pushed each other.

EVEN AS PARTY ASKED SONIA TO DECIDE ON THE ISSUE, SEVERAL MLAS FROM HOODA CAMP SAID THEY WANTED HIM TO BE THE STATE PARTY CHIEF
