Repa­tri­a­tion of BSF man from Pak: MEA gets no­tice

: The Pun­jab and Haryana high court on Thurs­day put min­istry for ex­ter­nal af­fairs (MEA) on no­tice on a pe­ti­tion seek­ing repa­tri­a­tion of a 1971 war sol­dier from Pak­istan. The bench of jus­tice Rakesh Ku­mar Jain has sought re­sponse from MEA and BSF)au­thor­i­ties by Novem­ber 13 on a pe­ti­tion of An­grez Kaur of Farid­kot. She had sought di­rec­tion to get her hus­band, Sur­jit Singh, a con­sta­ble in BSF, who, ac­cord­ing to her, was cap­tured by the Pak­istani army on De­cem­ber 4, 1971. BSF had pre­sumed him killed in Ch­hamb sec­tor. The pe­ti­tioner ar­gued that for­mer Pak­istani hu­man rights ac­tivist An­sar Bur­ney in a state­ment to Pak­istan news pa­per ‘Jang’ on April 28, 2011, had stated that con­sta­ble Sur­jit Singh of In­dia was in Pak­istan jail.
