Af­ter nine dis­tricts of Jammu re­gion recorded healthy turnout of vot­ers in first and sec­ond phase of ur­ban body elec­tions on Oc­to­ber 8 and 10, Samba dis­trict will go to polls in third phase on Satur­day amid tight se­cu­rity ar­range­ments.

Samba deputy com­mis­sioner Sarita Chauhan said, “There are 31,878 vot­ers in the dis­trict that in­clude 16,308 male and 15,570 fe­male vot­ers.”

A to­tal of 57 polling sta­tions have been set up for 56 mu­nic­i­pal wards, out of which seven have been clas­si­fied as sen­si­tive and four as hy­per­sen­si­tive.

A to­tal of 242 can­di­dates are in fray, in­clud­ing 56 of BJP, 52 of Congress, 21 of Pan­thers Party and 113 in­de­pen­dent can­di­dates.

Chauhan said that polling staff and para­mil­i­tary per­son­nel have been dis­patched to polling sta­tions.

“Tight se­cu­rity ar­range­ments have been made to en­sure peace­ful polling,” she added.

The polling via EVMs will be held on Satur­day from 6am to 4pm.

Nine dis­tricts of Jammu re­gion — Jammu, Poonch, Ra­jouri, Kathua, Ud­ham­pur, Doda, Ram­ban, Kisht­war and Reasi al­ready voted in first and sec­ond phase on Oc­to­ber 8 and 10.
