‘I never gave up on acting’
Actor Shamita Shetty (right), who will soon be seen in a celebrity dance reality show, says that she never planned to leave the film industry, but when she didn’t get the kind of roles she wanted after the release of her 2005 film, Zeher, she decided to take a break. “I was not happy with the kind of roles I was being offered after Zeher, and so I didn’t take up any. And I am a creative person and sitting at home was tough for me. That is why I turned to interior designing. A lot of people thought I had given up acting, but I was always open to doing good roles,” says Shamita. “I don’t want to be a showpiece in a film. I won’t take up anything just for the sake of being on screen,” she adds.
About the kind of roles she wants to do, the 36-yearold says: “I want to take up challenging roles …. the kind that are different from what I have done before. Your potential as an actor only develops when you do more work.”
While she enjoyed her stint as an interior designer, she has put that on the back burner for now. “Performing was always my first love. I am so happy to be back. I will concentrate on this show for now,” she says, adding, “Dancing is my passion and I am sure I will get to learn many dance forms on the show. I am very excited about it.”
