‘THERE CAN’T BE ANOTHER KAREENA’
... says Kareena Kapoor Khan and confesses that she loves that new actors are big fans of hers
R ight from the start, she has starred in blockbusters and done hit item songs alongside. And now, as actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, 34, does another special dance number in a Karan Johar production, a remake of Hollywood hit Warrior (2011), we catch up with her for a quick chat about young actors being her fans, and her love for item songs. Are you aware that you have a huge fan following among the younger generation of actors, including Sidharth (Malhotra) with whom you just shot an item song? I am lucky that all the young actors of this generation are huge fans of mine. And it makes me feel extremely happy. But I don’t understand why they keep going on about it (smiles). While doing the item song, I think Sid was a little nervous, but we get along very well. He is so charming, has such a good screen presence; and the way he has built his physique for the film that whenever he is in the frame or a shot, I was like, ‘I am looking at you’. Sidharth recently told us that he wishes there was a younger version of Kareena for him to date... There can’t be any other Kareena (laughs). And it’s not due to anything else but I strongly feel that everyone should have their own personality. I read that (Sidharth’s) interview in which he had said that; and I feel it’s a compliment for sure, and I feel very special about it. You have done so many hit item songs. In that way, do you feel the pressure about the next one doing well?
I don’t have any pressure as such, because honestly, I really enjoy these songs, whether it’s Fevicol (Dabangg 2), Chammak Challo (Ra. One) or any of the songs that I have done. I have always had so much fun doing them. The idea is not to feel pressure, but to have fun. You have become very choosy about your work. What made you take up the new item song? I think it’s one of my best item songs. People think that item songs are looked down upon because according to them, they are raunchy and will have lots of skin show. But, it’s (her song) not that; this one has a lot of innocence in it.
