Freida Pinto doesn’t come from a filmi background. She was a model until 2008, after which, she made her debut with British film Slumdog Millionaire. Today, she boasts of a fan following across the globe. But the actor, who has shifted base to Los Angeles, says that India will always be home.

Ask her if she will ever move back, and Freida says, “It’s hard as I have a home in so many places now, and friends all over. When I am in Mumbai for too long, I miss my friends in LA, and when I am in LA, I feel the need to go to London (UK).” The 30-year-old feels that she is “a global citizen”. “I am nomadic. I like to travel from place to place. But what’s the one place I would return to when I am feeling extremely sick, or when I need the warmth and comfort of my family? Always Mumbai. It will always be my number one place,” she says. Talking about her stardom, she says, “I don’t know how it (becoming a star) happened, but I am glad it happened to me and no one else. It’s not about being selfish. But if I was the chosen one, I’m proud to be that.”
