Irfan Pathan isn’t ready to walk down the marriage lane anytime soon. “Jab shaadi honi hogi, tab ho jayegi” is what the cricketer believes in. “I am single and very happy. For now, I have no plans of getting married,” says Irfan, who became an uncle last year when his brother, cricketer Yusuf Pathan, welcomed a baby boy.

The 30-year-old all-rounder, who last represented team India in 2012, is certain that he will be back on the field next year. “My main aim is to get back to cricket, and you will see me next year for sure,” says Irfan, adding that he misses all the fun and on-field action. Ask him to share some dressing room stories, and he says that the cricketers often pull each other’s leg. “Bas mauka milna chahiye khichai karne ka! Agar kisi ki girlfriend hai, aur woh pareshaan kar rahi hai, toh khichai toh hogi. Agar nahi bhi hai, phir bhi khichai hoti hai,” he laughs.

Meanwhile, Irfan, who is participating in an ongoing reality dance show on TV, says that he doesn’t fear people saying that his focus has shifted. He insists that cricket will always be his first love.

“I cannot help it if they say that. Mujhe pata hai ki mera focus kya hai. Cricket is the most important thing for me. It is my passion. Although this is off season, I don’t miss my physical training. When I am practising for the show, too, I make it a point to not miss my training. Even during Ramzan, I used to train after breaking my fast every day,” he says.

As for the dance show, the cricketer seems to be enjoying himself on the sets. “I’m learning a lot on the show. I took some time to say yes to it, but I’m glad that I finally did,” says Irfan, adding that he finds dancing tough. “If I remember the steps, then I forget to keep up with the music, and if I concentrate on the music, then I forget my steps,” he says.

My main aim is to get back to cricket and you will see me next year for sure. The game is the most important thing for me Jab shaadi honi hogi, tab ho jaegi. I am single and very happy
