HOW ABOUT NONE FOR THE ROAD, DELHI?
Today, August 6, is the National Don’t Drink and Drive Day and although we think it shouldn’t be just a one-day concept, the initiative is admirable.
The campaign, started by the NGO Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD) in 2005, has gained steam over the last few years. “This year, over 100 pubs in Delhi have committed to provide taxis and drivers to those who want to drive after drinking. NCR pubs have responded equally well,” says CADD founder, Prince Singhal.
“Keeping in mind that about 60% of our guests drink, we’ve also adopted the campaign,” says Dinesh Arora, owner of Elf Cafe & Bar. Sameer Dutt, GM of 7 Degrees Brauhaus, adds, “We request guests to leave their cars in the parking and even offer to pay the parking fee.”
“We have tie-ups with various taxi services and encourage customers to take a cab if they’re not up to driving on their own,” says Manish Choudhary, owner, TC and Route 04.
