‘Just because Azhar and Dhoni want a biopic doesn’t mean I also want one’
Former cricketer Kapil Dev says that his life is an open book and he still isn’t so old that a film be made on him
I just don’t like the idea of a film being made on my life right now. I am not that old. Maybe after 20-30 years, it might be okay
Biopics being made on former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin and cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni are creating quite a buzz among their fans. However, former Indian captain Kapil Dev says that he doesn’t want a film to be made on his life. “Just because Azharuddin and Dhoni have biopics on them doesn’t mean that I will want one too. I just don’t like the idea of a film being made on my life right now. I am not that old and people have seen how my life has taken shape,” says the 56-year-old, adding, “I liked the biopic made on Milkha Singh’s (sprinter) life, but I don’t think I am comfortable with a film being made on my life now. Maybe after 20-30 years, it might be okay, but not now.”
Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey is helming Dhoni’s biopic, which stars actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead, while director Anthony D’Souza is directing Azharuddin’s biopic, which stars actor Emraan Hashmi. Reports suggest that the cricketers have been meeting the actors regularly to help them understand their personalities better.
Kapil, who will be seen as a guest in an upcoming television show, also says that he has no plans to act in films, but he is open to interesting projects on TV. “I don’t think I am good enough to be in a movie. But you never know (in television). If this (show) is successful, then why not,” he says.
Talking about the kind of shows that he enjoys on the small screen, Kapil says that he tries to catch up on comedy programmes. “I like to watch the comedy shows on air ... I enjoy these the most. I am working throughout the day and I don’t have too much time to follow anything else. Plus these shows are fun and relaxing,” he says.
