Actor couple Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh (right) were in Bangkok when an explosion there left at least 27 people dead and 78 others wounded, earlier this week. The couple confirmed they are safe.

Genelia was there to shoot an advertisement, and she was in a mall right opposite to the site where the blast happened. “Bomb set off just opposite the mall we are currently in — can hear the sirens blazing all over — we are safe but feel terrible for the lives lost,” Genelia tweeted on Monday. She thanked all her Twitter followers. “Good morning... Thank you all for the concern... Just to inform you we are safe... #Thankgod4smallmercies (sic),” she wrote.

Riteish even shared a video in which several ambulances are seen on the road. “Bangkok — right across the street,” he captioned the video. He later posted on Twitter: “My thoughts go out to the people affected by last night’s cowardly attack. Taking innocent lives is no way to protest or make a point. Thank you all for your prayers and concern. We all are fine.”

The explosion was on the Rajprasong intersection, which has been the centre of political demonstrations in recent years.
