Actor Irrfan Khan (left), who essayed the role of Rana, a taxi company owner in his last film Piku, won an award in the best actor category at an international award ceremony held at Melbourne recently.

While the 48-year-old was not able to attend the ceremony, he was thrilled on getting the award. “It is an absolute honour to have won this award. I am so glad that the film has won hearts all over. (My character) Rana is definitely indebted to the audiences,” says Irrfan. The actor, who has played hard-hitting roles in films such as Haider (2014) and Paan Singh Tomar (2012), was on the lookout for a love story before he signed Piku. “I was waiting to do stories that had some resonance with the audience. We are in a very interesting phase in Bollywood. The audience is longing to see films with stories which they can relate to. This is a time when we can redefine commercial flavour and entertainment,” says Irrfan.

Meanwhile, the actor will be seen with Iranian actor Golshifteh Farahani in Anup Singh’s next film.
