A musician who trained as engineer
Before becoming Badshah, Aditya Singh reveals he studied engineering and also had a job as one!
Popular Punjabi rapper Badshah, who is known for hits such as Chul, 2 Many Girls and the recent hit DJ Waley Babu, didn’t have a great time convincing his parents of his career choice. An engineer by training, the Desi Hip Hop hitmaker recalls his journey for us.
“When I first told my parents I want to be a rapper, they asked me, ‘Yeh rap hota kya hai’. And to make them understand I showed them a music video featuring rapper 50 Cent. That didn’t put things in my favour, because it was an obscene video,” he recalls, adding, “After that, they told me ‘Bete pehle bade ho jao, phir jo karna ho woh kar lena’. It was difficult to convince my parents that I want to be a rapper. The only Indian reference to rapping was Baba Sehgal, which was again very unconvincing.”
Badshah, who studied civil engineering from Chandigarh, revealed that he had a job as a civil engineer before he ventured into music. “I went to St. Stephen’s for one month, but then later joined an engineering college in Chandigarh. After my education, I had a job as well. Helmet pehen ke jaata tha main site par (laughs). But I never really liked it much. Thankfully, I got my chance at music and there was no looking back. Now, I say that I was always a musician who happened to be a civil engineer. I only wanted to do something in music,” he signs off.
