Actor Sushmita Sen (above) says she is satisfied with the way her career has shaped up, only because she followed her heart. The 39-year-old, who adopted her elder daughter Renee, when she was 25, and her younger daughter Alisah, when she was 34, says that she is glad that she never led her life according to other people’s choices. “I never followed the rules. I feel that it has been my greatest strength, and this is why I have been able to do everything that I wanted to without having to compromise on any one aspect. When you follow your instinct and live your life with integrity, it will shape everything,” she says.

Although many of her decisions were risky, Sushmita says that she never let this deter her. “I was never ignorant about the risks, I was always aware of them. If you want to grow, you have to break out of your comfort zone. It’s always going to be hard to be yourself. So, there has to be something rock solid inside of you. That you can only nurture when you go against the odds,” says Sushmita, who is currently judging a comedy show.

The actor says that it was not easy initially to be a part of showbiz. “It was very hard at 18 when I became a public figure. I felt that I needed to be a certain way. But I asked myself... what is the worst that can happen? And it was rejection. If you have faced rejection, acceptance will follow,” she says.
