‘I don’t know what makes me click’
There is no denying Salman Khan’s star power. The Bollywood actor is equally popular on the small screen. Soon, he will return to the tube as the host of a controversial reality show. But the Dabangg (2010) star says he has no clue what makes him ‘click’ with the audience. “There are others who are frank and honest, and have many more qualities, but they don’t connect with the audience. I don’t know what makes me click. I don’t want to find out either. If I found out, then I would make a conscious effort to be like that, and that would make it all fake. Let the magical and mystical qualities work,” he says.
This Diwali, while his TV show will be on air, Salman’s film with director Sooraj Barjatya will also release. But the actor remains unfazed about the clash, and doesn’t fear overexposure. “I won’t be on air all week, so it’s not a problem,” he says.
A few months ago, rumours claimed that Salman was being paid ` 8 crore for each episode (last season, the makers apparently shelled out ` 4 crore per episode). Bring this up, and he bursts out laughing. “I actually wanted them to pay me triple the amount, but they didn’t agree,” quips the actor, who has hosted four seasons of this TV show in the past. Despite that, every year, reports emerge about Salman not planning to return as the host in the subsequent season. But before we find a connection — between his coming onboard and the rumours about his hefty pay cheques — he explains his decision, saying, “Three months of being involved in this show gets to you, I guess. So, when it ends, I feel like I’ve had enough. I feel exhausted with the whole journey, and I don’t feel like continuing. But then, after a few months, I miss it, and I end up coming back.”
