Haider gave Shahid strength to take risks
Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s National Award winning film Haider gave its lead actor Shahid Kapoor many reasons to celebrate, but the movie also taught him a few lessons on taking risks.
“Haider has given me a lot of strength to take risky decisions. In fact, this film has helped me discover that if you want to be original you have to take risks. If you are comfortable while acting you are probably doing something that someone has already done in the past and that is not original. So, originality comes from spaces which are uncomfortable,” says Shahid, who can be seen in filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s directorial alongside actor Alia Bhatt.
Haider, which is the third installment of Vishal Bhardwaj’s Shakespearean trilogy, is based on The Bard’s play Hamlet, and helped satiate Shahid’s hunger as an artist.
“Haider was an amazing film in my career. It was a very brave film for Vishal sir to attempt and a very risky film for me to act in. But eventually the actor inside you craves for roles which you can perform and want to attempt, and Haider was that one opportunity,” says Shahid.
