While they are one busy couple, actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and businessman Raj Kundra, who have been married for almost six years now, make sure that they are together on Karva Chauth. “We make sure to be together on this day. And I have been fasting every year, except for when I was pregnant,” she says.

However, Shilpa admits that today’s festival is a tough one. “This is the only festival that I don’t enjoy. More than eating, I miss drinking water. But I keep the fast as an Indian pativrata wife,” she says, adding, “This year will be different as my mother-inlaw will be visiting. She stays in London and every year she sends me the sargi through someone. This year it will be great to have her here.”

Talking about what she does every year, Shilpa says, “We go to Sunita’s (actor Anil Kapoor’s wife) house, where all the women sit together and do the puja. And it is only on this day that the universe decides that the moon will not come out till like 10pm!”

However, her husband doesn’t let her fast alone. “Raj also keeps the fast and he does this out of love. My mother-in-law is very sweet, after the puja she says ‘chai pee lo.’ This year I’m excited as she will personally give me the sargi,” she says.

Talking about marriage as an institution, the actor says friendship and honesty are important for a marriage to succeed. “You must have a sense of humour. I also think that it is important to take out time for each other. Friday nights are date nights for us. We go out or watch a movie. The idea is to spend quality time together,” she says.
