For Shivani, there’s no other actor like Shah Rukh or Sallu

Actor Shivani Raghuvanshi (left), who made her Bollywood debut with filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee’s recent production, says that competition does not bother her.

The 24-year-old says that while she has grown up watching Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s films, she feels that it’s tough to get that star status now. “I have been following Salman and Shah Rukh since childhood and grew up on their films. Ab Salman and Shah Rukh ke jaisa star koi ban nai sakta. In their time, there were fewer films releasing and so each film would be remembered. Now so many films release every week. So if you’re not good at what you do, no one will remember you...I wish I was born in that era,” she says.

However, acting is not the only thing she sees herself doing in the future. “I always wanted to be a star. But when I saw Devdas, I wanted to a director, and that is something that I plan on doing. But after graduation, I got interested in acting,” she says.

Her first film is not a conventional Bollywood potboiler and Shivani took some time adjusting to the script. “I was not excited. I wanted a proper Bollywood debut. I went for an audition and I thought that there will be air blown on the set and all. I was shocked when I read the script. I had only seen those kinds of films in Bollywod,” says the actor. “The next day I told Kanu (Behl, director) that this will not work. I said ‘This is good, but are you sure you want to make it?’ I used to give suggestions all the time to change the script. Eventually, I realised that I was not accepting the script. I was just 21 and was not being able to relate. But when I read it for the second time, I did not even need Kanu to understand. That script never left my mind. It was so relatable. So, for me this became a commercial film,” she adds.
