While he has now made a place for himself in Bollywood, actor Ayushmann Khurrana says that his journey in the film industry has been a challenging yet proud struggle.

The actor, who started out by participating in a stunt-based reality show on the small screen, says that he never looked at his starting days as a struggle and took everything in his stride. “It is all so surreal today. I remember when I came to Mumbai, I would barely sleep as I was doing a radio show and when I did it would often be in my car. In fact, at the time I did not know anyone and I was even staying illegally at my friend’s hostel,” says Ayushmann, who rose to fame with his Bollywood debut Vicky Donor ( 2012).

However, the actor only has good memories of his days of struggle. “I know that I have come a long way and I also know that I have a long way to go. But the journey has been very endearing, it barely feels like a struggle,” he says.

While his contemporaries have many hit films to their name, Ayushmann, who’s just five-films-old, says he’s not bothered by competition. “The industry is open to everyone now and had it not been so, I would not have been here. There are many people in the industry today and I am here because of this trend. It’s a great time for everyone to be in Bollywood,” he says.

Even though he’s been in the industry for some time, Ayushmann says that he still takes some time to get under the skin of the character. “I take at least a day or two to warm up to a new character when I start shooting for a film. The first shot is always nerve- wracking for me. And the release of a film is like taking the Class 10 board exams,” says the actor. Ayushmann will be seen alongside actor Bhumi Pednekar for the second time in his upcoming film, which will be directed by Aanand L Rai of Tanu Weds Manu fame.
