Riteish Deshmukh’s filmy aim — to do at least one film every year
Actor Riteish Deshmukh (left), who made his acting debut in Marathi cinema with action film Lai Bhaari (2014), says he wishes to do one Marathi film a year.
“Doing a film is the important thing for me, and it doesn’t matter if I’m doing a Hindi or a Marathi film. However, I attempt to do at least one film a year,” says Riteish, who made his debut as a film producer with Marathi success Balak Palak (2013), directed by Ravi Jadhav. Following that, his acting debut in Marathi cinema (Lai Bhaari) went on to become the highest grossing Marathi film of all time.
“I enjoyed working in Lai Bhaari. I’m glad the film did well at the box office. I’m looking forward to doing more films in Marathi. We did attempt something differ- ent in Lai Bhaari. Nishikant and I thought of making an action drama movie in Marathi, following the trend of South Indian movies. This genre was never attempted in Marathi. We weren’t sure whether it’d be accepted. Eventually, Marathi movie viewers watch Hindi movies. So it was not a new thing but as a Marathi film it was definitely an unusual attempt,” says Riteish.
I enjoyed working in Lai Bhaari after 10 years. I am glad that the film did well at the box office. I’m looking forward to doing more films in Marathi
